"Alright, put her away with all the other pods." Dr. Vibia spoke to her assistants, there was a hint of russian accent in her voice.
The other technicians roll Juliet in her icy tomb, she is nothing but suspended animation, incased inside a machine that will keep her the way she is now for as long as these mad scientists want. They slide the pod inside a small, cooler like vault in the wall at the back of the lab. Dr. Vibia walks to it and punches in a code to keep it locked. Only she can access the vaults.
"Good job gentlemen."
In this dark lab, isolated from the rest of the others in this dark company laid Juliet, a sleeping beauty, awaiting for her knight to come and wake her, to be with her. Sealed away for God only knows how long, she held on to the last thing she remembered from the dream she recalled having. A promise someone made her. A promise that one day she will wake up and feel the warm light of the sun once more. A promise that one day she and her prince will be together again.
It all happened so suddenly. The loud noise of all four tires exploding underneath the car, the ear shattering screech of the blown up tires skidding on the road as Corie desperately tried to stop the car and keep it from crashing into a tree or flip over and cause a worse result. Evee screams only added to the amount of fear her mother had for both their lives.
The car came to an abrupt halt. What in the world just happened?
Corie had to take a moment to let it all sink in, her heart was threatning to have an attack. She looked over to the passenger seat to check on her scared litttle girl; she was alright, shaken up, but overall no physical damage.
"Honey, are you okay?"
Evee took a few deep breaths to get a hold of herself, before she responded to her mother with just a nod. They could've crashed, they could've died.
"I am going to check the car. You stay here, okay?"
Corie got out of the car to check for any damage. The tires looked like they were mawled by an animal. She circled all around the car and confirmed the same thing happened to them. Looking closely she found some small spikes puntured into the tires. Where could these have come from? Doubt ninjas are running around out there. It hits her.
The stressed out mother stood up and kicked the car with all her might. That bastard Lye, he most likely sent Madden to follow them around. What is she suppose to do now? Walk? She can't make Evee walk all the way back to the city or walk aimlesly down the road in the hopes that there will be a place they could crash for the night.
They had no choice. They were going to have to spend the night in the middle of nowhere. She could call a toe truck to come get them, but she doesn't want to deal with that crap right now; now she has to figure out a way to lose Madden, which will be like trying to take gum off of the bottom of a shoe. Too much going on already. It will be a morning problem.
Corie opens the trunk and takes out a bag of clothes she had and a few small blankets. Inside the car she rolled down the windows just a little bit and turned off the car.
Evee looked up at her mother worried about the mess they were now in. "We are motionless huh?"
"Yep." Corie looked at her and slightly smiled. "I'm sorry baby."
Evee smiled at her. "Don't worry mommy. We can... think of this as a... camp out?" She tries to crack up a joke, which luckily makes her mother laugh a little.
"Sure... we are camping out."
Evee went to the back seat and laid her head on her mother's clothing bag, using it as a pillow. She took one of the blankets to keep warm.
Corie saw Evee was having trouble falling asleep. Who wouldn't? So she began to softly sing her a lullaby from her childhood.
"Do, do, l'enfant do,
L'enfant dormira bien vite.
Do, do, l'enfant do,
L'enfant dormira bientôt."
After repeating it a few times, Evee slipped into slumber. For a few minutes or so, the young mother laid back in the passenger seat, contemplating her life and the bad decisions she had ever made. This mission would be one of them. If she had never let herself fall so deep in this criminal world, none of this would've happened. She should've just stuck with the good mother life and live her life normally with Evee. Who knew? Maybe she could've found love again if she had just lived her life away from Madden, away from bounty hunting... away from Lye. She should've just come to terms with herself, accept the ordeal and assume her responsibility as a young mother, focus on Evee's well being to nurture her into a person better and bigger than she will ever be.
Corie's eyes got hevier the more she thought all of this. Eventually she too fell asleep.
Dr. Takeru quietly walked to the parking lot when suddenly G's voice found his ears. He looked up to see her smoking a cigarette. He could use one too.
"Doctor, turning in for the night? I thought you would be staying to work on Juliet."
Anger and pain boiled up inside of him. He was suppose to continue with his fine work, now that it was finally making strides, but sadly fate ins't too kind. He opens his car and just dumps all his things in there, closed the door and walked to Gedra with his aged hands in his pockets. He looked up at the dark sky; there were too many lights around for them to be able to see the stars.
He sighed. "I would be working on Juliet..." He stands next to her. "but the Apothecary no longer needs or wants my services." He confesses his recent unemployed status. "It was an honor to have been one of your creators Gedra." He takes his leave.
